Just as with the other types of waste (PMD, paper-cardboard, glass, etc.), the way your food waste is collected in the orange bag depends on your building:

  • Do you live in a detached house? Or in an apartment in a building that does not have its own large collective containers in a waste bins room? Bruxelles-Propreté collects your orange bag ‘door-to-door’, just as it does for your other waste bags: place them outside on the pavement at the right time.
  • Do you live in an apartment block that has a waste bins room with large collective containers? A large orange container, of 240 litres, is placed in this room: put your orange bags in it at any time. If you have any questions, please ask your concierge or your property manager.

Your household has door-to-door collections

If you live in in a detached house or in an apartment in a building that does not have its own large containers in a waste bins room, your waste is collected ‘door-to-door’ by Bruxelles-Propreté. This means that you put out your white, yellow, and blue bags, etc. on the pavement on collection day.

If so, your orange bag is also collected once a week by Bruxelles-Propreté.

Please note that your food waste must not be thrown straight into the orange container, but should be placed first in the orange bag. Your orange bag, with or without its orange container, should be placed on the pavement in front of your building on collection day.

Your apartment block has large container collections

If you live in an apartment block that has its own large containers for sorting of household waste, you are used to putting white, yellow, and blue bags in these containers, which are often located in a ‘bins’ room in the basement.

You should do the same with the orange bags! A new large container, of 240 litres, is provided for your block.

All apartment blocks with a waste bins room can receive their large container for food waste. Don’t hesitate to find out more from your concierge or your property manager.
