Sorting of food waste is compulsory
Our food waste (leftovers, peelings, etc.) make up over a third of our household waste. When thrown away in the white bag for unsorted waste, it ends up in the incinerator, which is a huge waste of resources and produces significant greenhouse gas emissions.
We urgently need to adopt new solutions!
To save resources and reduce our impact on the environment, the sorting of food waste will become compulsory in Europe, at the latest by 31/12/2023.
Brussels-Capital Region did not want to wait until this deadline. Starting in May 2023, food waste will have to be sorted, and this will apply to households as well as companies and administrations.
